Mid Year Camp is one of the highlights of the Christian Students calendar!

Mid Year Camp is from Sunday 14th- Thursday 18th July 2024

It’s an excellent opportunity to encourage and equip each other to serve God with our lives. We want to make the most of five days together thinking deeply about God and his word. We’ll get to know each other as we listen, read, chat, think, pray and have fun together.

When:  Starts 1pm Sunday 14th July (we’ll travel up in cars together, leaving Townsville approx 7am, later for Cairns crew) and finishes after lunch on Thursday 18th (arriving back in Townsville/Cairns approx 6pm/3pm).

Where: Quinola Lakes, 83 Andrickson Rd, Malanda. It’s in the Atherton Tablelands (just over an hour south west of Cairns).

The campsite has dorm style accomodation and we will provide all meals for the week. It is situated on a working dairy farm in the centre of the lush Atherton Tablelands. The camp is on the edge of a lake surrounded by pine trees. There are even platypus in the lake!

Cost:  $240. Price includes accommodation and all meals, (payment can be made after registration, and we have some subsidies available, please get in touch if this will help you come along)

Mid Year Camp – Frequently Asked Questions

Where will MYC be?

This year we will be heading to Quinola Lakes Campsite at Malanda on the beautiful Atherton Tableland. The campsite is about 4-4.5 hours drive from Townsville, and about 1.5 hours drive from Cairns.

How will I get to camp?

We drive to camp from Cairns and Townsville. You can indicate whether you are able to offer spaces in your car or need a spot to get to camp. Transport will be arranged after registrations close on July 1st. We’ll send an email letting you know who you are travelling with. It is appreciated if you can chat with your driver about sharing the fuel cost.

Who should come along?

We would love you to join us – anyone who is keen to learn from God’s Word, whether you’ve read the Bible for many years or have never opened it before. It is a great opportunity to learn more about Jesus and get to know others from JCU.

When do I have to register by?

Registration is now open and will close on Monday the 1st of July.

Can I come to MYC if I can only make certain days?

We would really love for you to be with us as long as possible and it is (much) better if you are able to make the whole conference. We understand though that there might be circumstances that make this difficult, so please chat to us for more details

How much does MYC cost?

Camp costs $240. If finances are an issue, we don’t want that to be a barrier to you joining us, please chat to us and we can figure out together to get you there.

What does the camp cost cover?

The registration covers accommodation and food from Sunday lunch to Thursday lunch and other expenses of the conference.

What do I need to bring?

We’ll send you a packing list when you register.

What happens at camp?

At camp we’ll spend time reading, discussing and hearing the Bible taught. We’ll pray together, sing together and have fun together. There will be lots to consider and learn together as well as time to reflect, and free time to enjoy and explore the beautiful surroundings on the tablelands. Camp is a great chance to forge friendships and grow in our knowledge and love of God.

Manuscript Discovery – Spend time with a small group looking at a section of the Bible with no chapters, verses, or headings. It’s a different way to approach the text and a great time to look at a passage of the Bible either for the first time – or afresh.

Bible Talks – Each day there will be a Bible talk, helping us to think through the topic.

Seminars – MYC seminars are a chance to spend time digging into God’s word together and in smaller groups, and building up a picture of what the Bible as a whole says about a particular topic. They are usually packed with Bible reading, discussion, and snacks!

Missionaries – Meet and pray for some of our link missionaries (some in person and some by video) and hear about their experiences of serving God in a different contexts to our own.

Workshops – An opportunity to think about some different topics in light of who God is and how he speaks to us.

Five Days on the Tableland – It’s a great time together in a lovely place – great to get away somewhere different, and an opportunity to meet others from Christian Students in Townsville and Cairns, and have a lot of fun too!!

What if I have a different question? If your question is not covered here or you want to chat further, please send us an email
